ROUGH DRAFT — for direction only
How It Works About Steve Services FAQ Contact Free Resume Review
Clear resumes for a job market shaped by AI

AI can draft a resume in minutes. It can't tell you what belongs in yours.

Anyone can generate a resume now. The hard part is judgment — deciding what to say, what to leave out and how to position real experience for a specific role. That's the work Real Clear Resumes does.

What changed

Writing your own resume got easier. Standing out got harder.

AI lowered the barrier to producing a resume to almost nothing. That's not the problem. The problem is what happens next.

01

Everyone sounds the same

The same tools produce the same phrasing. Recruiters now read dozens of resumes that blur together — yours included.

02

Speed isn't a strategy

A document generated in minutes still has to answer one question: why you, for this role. Most drafts don't.

03

Judgment is the missing piece

Knowing what to emphasize, what to cut and how to frame real experience is work a tool can't do for you.

More job seekers are using AI than ever — which is exactly why a generic resume is now easier than ever to spot.

40.7%of job seekers have used AI somewhere in their job search.
29.3%used it to write or customize a resume or cover letter — up from 17.3% the year before.

How we work

What Real Clear Resumes does differently

Less about claims or features, more about how the transformation actually gets done.

We start with a conversation

No automated reply, no template to fill in. We talk first, then decide the right way forward together.

Read from the employer's side

A background in executive recruiting means knowing how resumes are screened, compared and shortlisted.

Honest about what a resume can do

No inflated guarantees. A strong resume removes a reason to pass you over — it can't promise the rest.

You work with one person

The person who reviews your resume is the person who writes it. Entry-level through executive, U.S. and international.

What changes for you

The difference isn't just a better format. It's a more effective document.

You keep your experience. What changes is how it reads to the person deciding whether to call you.

Before

A resume written from a narrow perspective.

After

A resume written for the hiring person's attention.

Before

A document that lists your general job functions.

After

A document that shows why it matters for the role.

The process

How it works

Four steps. The first three are free, and there's no pressure to go further.

1

Send your resume

Upload it through the free review. Takes about a minute.

2

Get an honest read

Steve tells you plainly what's working and what's holding it back.

3

Decide together

If it makes sense to work together, you'll know exactly what comes next.

4

Resume written

Steve drafts, you review, you refine — until you recognize yourself in it.

Meet Steve

The person who reviews your resume is the person who writes it.

Steve Burdan has been writing resumes for more than 30 years, and earned his CPRW certification back in 1993. He founded Real Clear Resumes in 2003. Earlier in his career he worked in executive recruiting — so he's seen the hiring process from the side that decides who gets the call.

He doesn't send templates or automated replies. Every engagement starts with a real conversation about where you are and where you're trying to go. Then, together, you decide the way forward.

In their words

Why people stay with Steve

A few notes from clients across different roles and situations.

I reached out to a lot of resume writers. Most sent an automated reply and a template to fill in. Steve was different — he said let's talk first, then decide the way forward together. That clicked.

Career changer

I needed a total reworking of my resume as I changed industries, with the right details popping on LinkedIn too. Steve made it coherent — and within three months I had a job offer.

Industry transition

Steve has a real gift for putting on paper the value someone brings to an employer — something that's surprisingly hard to capture on your own.

Questions worth asking

Why hire a resume writer when AI can draft one for me? +

Because the hard part was never the typing. AI can produce a formatted draft quickly, but it can't decide what matters most for the role you want, what to leave out or how to frame your real experience so it lands. That judgment is the work — and it's what you're paying for.

Can you guarantee I'll get a job or more interviews? +

No resume writer can promise you a job. Hiring depends on your experience, the market, your target roles, timing and how you present in interviews. What Real Clear Resumes can do is make sure your resume is not the reason you get passed over.

Will my resume "beat the system" or get through every screener? +

No honest service can promise that, and the systems change constantly. The goal is a resume that's clear, specific and easy to read — for the software and the person on the other side of it.

How does the process work? +

It starts with a conversation and personalized review, and possibly a short intake form. From there, Steve creates the prototype, you review the draft and then any changes or questions are worked through.

Who do you work with? +

Everyone from out of college and early career to professionals, managers and senior executives in almost every industry across the U.S., Canada and internationally. The free review is the easiest way to find out if it's a fit.
